 | Deborah Donnelly at the Waldock Art Gallery in Dublin, Ireland
Deborah Donnelly is a modern art painter whose work resembles much of that painted during the impressionist era.She uses strikingly bold colours in her paintings of cows, cafes, farmsteads, and other farm animals. She was born in Ireland and studied at the National College of Art and Design.
Deborah moved to New York after several one woman exhibitions in Ireland. During her stay in the USA she had seven major exhibitions between 1998 and 2003. Now, back in her native Ireland, she continues her painting career. Much of her latest work is shown at the Waldock Art Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.
An article by Otto Peter Erbar in the Lowell Sun describes her work:
"In between she finished a slew of the brightly coloured landscapes, marine and city scenes, which are her trademark. Her most recent major work is a giant portrait of a cow, which stares head on at the viewer, an energetic assemblage of flashing brushstrokes, done in otherworldly shades of green, yellow and blue.
Donnelly's work is all about colour........A large farm scene, The Harvest, owes much to French painting at the turn of the 20th Century, and maybe even a little Van Gogh......a downtown pub scene, Bewley's Cafe, captures all the hustle and bustle with energetic brushstrokes"......
